Investing in Expense Reduction Analysts (ERA) was a complete career change for me. For me, joining ERA was a chance to try something new – it allowed me to set myself different challenges, learn more and channel my skill set into something fresh and exciting.

I spent the first 18 years of my professional life serving in the Royal Air Force (RAF), finally serving as Squadron Leader. There were many things I loved about my career there, but it was time for a change. I wanted a new challenge and I particularly wanted to use and build on the skills I’d learned through the RAF and the MBA I took a few years ago.

“I went to the Franchise Exhibition at the Birmingham NEC and asked one of the banks for some advice. They told me that there are three franchise sectors here to stay: fast food, care of the elderly and business to business consulting. I discarded the first two as they didn’t appeal to me. I met ERA and got chatting a little later on to an ERA Franchise Partner and the rest, as they say, is history.”

It’s a myth that changing career means starting from scratch.

ERA offers a great training programme to consolidate and build on whatever experience you already have. I particularly liked the fact that once the initial 5 week foundation training course is completed, you have the continuing support of the ERA Academy and Academy Manager. They’re there to accompany you to your first few meetings or simply for a bit of advice. It’s clichéd, but support really was just a phone call away.

Of course there were feelings of apprehension initially – particularly because I didn’t have any traditional sales training. But I quickly realised that this really wasn’t a problem. Not only did the training programme and Academy support put me at ease, but it became clear very quickly that the skills I gained from the RAF, the team work, the communication skills and the professionalism, were not only relevant but stood me in very good stead indeed. ERA has really enabled me to bring together all the experience I already had under my belt and rapidly develop it to help me to launch my new business.

I think my success so far is testament to the viability of ERA’s franchise opportunity. I have followed the training and franchise model, utilised my pre-existing contacts and within just six months I’ve really pushed forward. I’ve signed two clients and have laid the groundwork for many more.

One of the best things about the business is being directly rewarded for the work you put in.

I love the fact that I’m responsible and accountable for my own efforts. You do have to be self-motivated, but there’s so much scope to work flexibly and be your own master.

You need a plan, flexibility and determination but I’m relishing the challenge and am already reaping the rewards. I am pleased that I decided to invest in myself by joining ERA. I am delighted with the support and results I have achieved so far.
